Elizabeth is excited to work with the RA101 group, meet new friends and run a successful 5K and the end of each course.
David Griffin
Brea
David.Griffin@asnailspace.net

David "Coach Dave" Griffin joined A Snail's Pace in Brea as a volunteer coach in December 2011 before assuming the RA 101 coaching duties in April 2012. Dave began running in high school back in 1983 and never looked back. Over the years, he has raced in several distances, including several marathons, but the 5K is his favorite. He loves the opportunity to coach beginner and veteran runners in an effort to give something back to the sport. Dave's philosophy of running is the belief that there's room for everybody in our sport and everyone's reason for running is equally important. Most of all, Dave cares about the sport as well as everyone he has the opportunity and pleasure of coaching. When he's not coaching, he's most likely racing somewhere!

Shawn Bell-Anson
Mission Viejo
Shawn.BellAnson@asnailspace.net

Shawn’s running began at a children’s home when she was a young teen. She entered a series of running track races and ran like the wind. One thing she knew for sure was that running freed her mind and helped her make sense of the cards she was dealt! Shawn has run too many races to count. Many marathons, half marathons, 10k’s, 5k’s, triathlons, and adventure races, mostly placing first and even breaking a record. She is a personal trainer for a living. She say’s “running is good medicine for the mind, body and especially the spirit". What’s important is making a difference in the world and giving back what has been so freely given to her.
Jose Gonzalez
RRCA Certified Coach
Monrovia & Brea
Jose.Gonzalez@asnailspace.net

Jose feels coaching is a very fulfilling position because there is no better feeling than seeing someone who at first thought they were not a strong enough runner to finish a 5k accomplishment their goals. He currently runs to maintain his fitness level to participate in running events like 5k's, 10k's and Half Marathons. Jose has been running seriously since 2007 when he ran the Nike Run Hit-Remix at the Colosseum. Before that he was using running as a way to warm up before he started a physical activity like Martial Arts, Softball, Basketball and weight lifting. Right now his short term goal is to get a Triple Crown Medal in 2013 for running three Rock n Roll Half Marathons. His long term goal is to some day run a Full Marathon. Jose feels that you get out of your fitness what you put into it, in other words, go strong or go home.

Alex Vasquez
Monrovia
Alex.Vasquez@asnailspacenet

Alex began his running career in 2012, with Snail's Pace 101 5k group. He then went on to run a 10k, and even a half marathon. He then became a coach at A Snail's Pace, at the request of their North County Running Academy Director.

"Running has empowered me to change my life," Alex said as being a primary motivator to run and then to keep running. He imparts the lessons that he has learned as a runner to the people he coaches. "Being 'one of them' helps me understand where they're at and also helps me connect my students in a more personal manner," Alex stated. He went on to say "Running with a group of people has been nothing short of amazing. We've grown a really tight knit community of fitness-minded folks. I really believe in A Snail Pace's system of training; it helps anyone from a novice to someone more seasoned start from zero to reach their goals."

Dede Schneider
Monrovia
Dede.Schneider@asnailspace.net

Growing up running was part of Dede’s conditioning for dance, gymnastics, tennis and the fierce sport of badminton. As most coaches do, running was used as a punishment so she never really enjoyed it. During college she found a love for running but only ran shorter distances to keep her mind and body balanced. In 1998 she ran her first marathon. After that race she was hooked. Since then she has run numerous 5k, 10k, and half marathons. Dede joined Snail’s Pace in 2010. In 2011 she was invited to be an assistant coach and then co-coach. She loves interacting and running in the group settings. The energy the group produces is contagious and make running enjoyable. She never has a boring run. Her coaching goal is to help you believe in yourself. By joining Snails, you will be able to complete the goal you set for yourself.
You will begin with brisk walking while adding 30 seconds of jogging per 5 minute interval. Each stage will incrementally decrease your walk time while safely increasing your run time. The stages are designed to increase your overall strength and endurance.

You will receive a series of informative clinics introduced at each progression of your running ability. Subjects will be covered by our network of medical professionals, certified coaching directors and shop managers. Clinics will include proper form, upper/lower body conditioning, proper nutrition and injury prevention, to name a few.
A Snail's Pace Running Academy is the official training program for the OC Marathon, Half Marathon, and Wahoo's OC 5K. This time around, our training programs are available exclusively through ocmarathon.com. You can register for the OC 5K and our OC 5K training program separately through OCmarathon.com. This gets you our training program at a discounted rate!
